My Dad's New Car

My Dad just bought a new car, a Mercedes Benz S350L (not the new model). He bought it even though the new model was announced. This left me scratching my head.

He's been driving the same model S320 for several years. So I found it strange that he would buy the exact same car (with a bigger engine) of the same colour.

After all, why buy a Mercedes unless you want to show off. And how can you show off driving an old model? Anyway, I frown on showing off. It's uncool.

He did get a great deal, though. He ordered a S280 and got an automatic upgrade to the S350L, all for $258,000. Now, I checked the LTA website and found that the base cost of that car is $238,000. So the dealer only made $20,000 off him, less than 10%. I believe the margin on the new model S350 is closer to $100,000.
